The Committee
Half way through the second term of each year the CU members elect a new committee. Each member of the Committee is given a different set of responsibilities and areas of the CU to support and coordinate. It is the role of a Committee member to encourage and mobilise the CU to live and speak the gospel message in these various teams.
Take some time to find out who this year's committee is and what they get up to. If you have any questions about RUCU or would like to meet someone at RUCU, don't hesitate to drop an email to one of the committee members.
Ian Page - Chairman
- Real Estate and Planning
- mufcian16@yahoo.co.uk
As chairman, my role within the Christian Union is to oversee the direction that the CU take. This includes deciding the aims and vision of the CU, as well as planning and leading the main meetings. I am studying Real Estate and Planning here at Uni, and in my spare time I enjoy playing and watching sport, eating ice cream and listening to music.
Eleanor Chapman - Chairwoman
- English Language/Applied Linguistics
- eleanor.chapman@live.co.uk
Hi! Along with Ian, I get to oversee the general runnings of RUCU, support the committee, and meet lots of interesting individuals. I love talking to people about Jesus Christ and I’m really excited that part of my job involves encouraging others to do so as well. One day I’d like to do literacy development work abroad. I really value friendship, and enjoy exploring new places, quirky cafes, and starting (but not usually finishing!) craft projects.
Sarah Bilous - International Secretary
- Speech and Language Therapy
- sarahbilous@hotmail.co.uk
I am the person that deals with everything international! My job is to encourage and help to equip everyone in the CU in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with all of the international students on campus (of which there are thousands!) The main way that we do this as a CU is through running Small World Cafe, which I oversee. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to good music, keeping good company and going for the odd run. I also love the idea of travelling the world one day, and I have the most adorable rabbit called Dolly!
Philly Roe - Events Co-ordinator
- Pharmacy
- phillyroe@hotmail.com
Hi, as the Event’s Co-ordinator my role is to lead the Event’s Team and to excite others about our awesome God, so that we can all be equipped to tell others about Him. The Event’s Team is a group of people within the CU that organise the outreach events during the term-time.
Outside of this I enjoy listening to music, making crafts, playing my guitar, spending time with friends and family, and eating 70% chocolate!
Nay Gill - Publicity Co-ordinator
- Applied Ecology and Conservation
- naomi.gill@live.co.uk
Hi there. Along with the publicity team I’m all about publicising the events we put on as a CU; usually through flyers, posters and the RUCU website. We want to make Jesus famous on our campus, and publicity is a great way of doing that- letting as many people know about us and our events as possible.
Most of all I just love to enjoy God’s incredible creation! I love travelling, listening to quality music, meeting new people, and learning geeky facts about animals...
Louise Goldspink - Communications Secretary
- BAEd Primary Education with English
- louiseloves@googlemail.com
Hey, I'm Louise and I'm the Comms Sec, so it's my job to book rooms and speakers, take minutes at committee meetings and look after lots of important documents, which means I have to be really really organised! I do Primary Teaching with English so being on placement takes up a lot of my time and my room is pretty much full of children's drawings and cards, and in my spare time (which is often pretty rare!) I love singing, discovering new music and taking photos. Oh, and I also talk a lot.
Cheryl Saverus - Small Groups Co-ordinator
- Geography
- cc_saverus@hotmail.com
There are Small Groups meeting weekly in halls, providing an opportunity to study the Bible in an informal, friendly setting with discussion time. We are able to encourage one another in our faith and focus on reaching the rest of the hall with the good news of Jesus. I am involved in assisting with Small Group leaders' training, suggesting small groups for those who would like to join, advising on hall/personal events and encouraging prayer, which makes all of the above possible! I enjoy meeting new people and spending time with friends.
Harry Garnish - Treasurer
- Maths with Computer Science
- your_pal_hal@hotmail.com
As treasurer, I deal with everything with RUCU that is money related, (i.e. giving budgets to teams within the CU, managing the RUCU accounts, paying speakers (if they want) that come to talk, receiving donations...etc). I generally lead in making sure we are honouring God with the money He blesses us with.
I am currently working towards a Bsc Computational Maths degree. I like singing, and playing piano, and I like to keep active and healthy. I also eat a lot, so be prepared to cook double portions if you are inviting me for dinner :)
Ryan ‘Benny’ Maslin - Prayer Secretary
- Management and Business Administration
- bennymaslin@hotmail.com
Hi I'm Ryan but everyone calls Benny (don't ask why you'll only get disappointed). As prayer sec my role is to encourage and to facilate prayer within CU. I'm studying Management and Business Administration. In my spare time I enjoy cooking food, reading, eating food, hanging out with friends and good banter! If you ever need a to find me for any reason or just fancy a chat... you'll probably find me in Mon Dial with a muffin!
